Labour Lambeth and Lib Dem Southwark - A Tale of Two Boroughs

Sometimes it's hard for residents to know what is going on beyond their immediate local area. How do you know if your councillors are delivering what you want? A quick look at the actions of Labour in Lambeth and the Lib Dems in Southwark shows striking differences. Just look at the latest news from Southwark, where the Town Hall is controlled by a right-wing alliance of Lib Dems and Tories:

* Southwark Lib Dems are planning to cut social services budgets by £3m; Labour in Lambeth invested £2m more in social services.
* Southwark Lib Dems are closing day care centres; Lambeth Labour is investing in lunch clubs.
* Southwark Lib Dems have stopped listening to the public and banned deputations from Council meetings; we still welcome deputations
* Southwark Lib Dems closed the Livesey Museum and tried to sell off the building; we saved Old Clapham Library (that the Lambeth Lib Dems put up for auction) and are setting it up as a community arts centre.
* Southwark Lib Dems closed Nunhead Community Centre; Labour saved the Old Lilian Baylis site, and it is now a Sports Action Zone
* Southwark Lib Dems left Camberwell leisure centre to rot; we're upgrading ALL our leisure centres, including a complete refurbishment of Brixton leisure centre and a brand new lesiure centre in Clapham
