WE LOVE LARKHALL E-Newsletter: March 2009
A monthly e-newsletter from your local Labour councillors for residents in and around Larkhall ward in Stockwell and Clapham North
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Dear friend,
Welcome to the March 2009 issue of the ‘We Love Larkhall’ e-newsletter – a little late this month (sorry!).
The biggest news this month is that your local Labour councillors have decided to FREEZE your council tax for the next TWO years – and what’s more, we’re able to do it without making damaging cuts to frontline services. There is much more news, as well as the usual details of local events and meetings, at www.welovelarkhall.com.
Thanks to those readers who took part in our survey about the e-newsletter and the website – we’re hoping to incorporate some of your suggestions in the next few months. If you haven’t taken part yet, it’s not too late - click here.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have a problem – and say hello to us when we’re out and about on your street or estate!
Thanks,
Pete, Tina + Raj

LAMBETH LABOUR FREEZES COUNCIL TAX FOR NEXT TWO YEARS
Lambeth Labour councillors have voted to freeze council tax for the next TWO years to help local households cope with the economic recession.
Labour’s two-year tax freeze is intended to help residents who are struggling to cope with the effects of the global recession. With rising fuel prices and many facing job losses, Labour wants to help families and individuals keep more of their money. The freeze will be delivered without cuts in frontline services. More details here.

Aardvark get their fruit and veg from environmentally aware farms that are close to London. This way you get the best UK seasonal produce, whilst supporting local farmers.
With the support of Well London, a Big Lottery funded initiative, they are focusing their services in the Larkhall area offering residents fantastic deals when they choose our fruit and veg boxes. More details click here.
ESTATE WALKABOUTS – INVITE US TO YOUR ESTATE!
Labour councillors for Larkhall hold regular street and estate walkabouts across the ward in order to spot problems which the Council should be addressing. Earlier this year we held an estate walkabout with local police on the Larkhall estate.
Do you think your street or estate block needs special attention? Let us know, and we’ll organise a walkabout in your area. For more details click here.

LAMBETH FUNDS 5,200 EXTRA LUNCH CLUB PLACES FOR OLDER PEOPLE
Lambeth councillors have given the go-ahead for inventive new plans to fund local services delivered by older people for older people, including the creation of 5,200 luncheon club places.
The funding, earmarked at £240,000 over three years, will allow neighbourhood clubs to offer a free hot meal and the opportunity to make friends, take part in activities and get advice and support on everything from borrowing a library book to befriending or claiming benefits. For more information, click here.
LAMBETH TENANTS HIT BY BIG RENT RISE
Many Lambeth Council housing tenants unfortunately face a big rise in their housing bills after rent levels were announced for 2009/10. Larkhall councillors will soon be writing to every Lambeth housing tenant in their ward to explain that rents had to increase in order to protect repairs budgets from £9 million of damaging cuts. To read the letter you can click here.
